ABOUT
Having over 25 years of industry experience in management, production and musical directing, Phil currently focuses on songwriting & artist development.
Musical Directing
During lockdown Phil was approached by Thames Mmxx owner Blondie McCoy (model, pro-skateboarder, former face of Palace skateboards & managed by Kate Moss,) to direct the musical content for his fledgling podcast. Following Blondey's unique and quirky musical vision, Phil arranged 30 Morrissey tracks for medieval ensemble. Snippets from each song were interspersed as segways throughout Blondey's shows.
The resulting showreel demonstrates Phil's versatility and ability to meticulously transcribe contemporary music note-for-note; as well as appropriate music of any style.
Episode 5 featured a guest interview with Naomi Campbell. In honour of Naomi's iconic appearance in the music video for George Michael's Freedom 90, Phil also reproduced this track for medieval ensemble.
Record Label
In the early noughties, Phil teamed with producer- songwriter Andy Duke (Robbie Williams, Kylie, Girls Aloud) to set up Back2Forward records in order to promote the music of Buck Brothers (later Top Buzzer).
Phil produced Buck Brothers 1st EP, ‘The World According to Buck’ in 2006, which was regularly played on student radio across the continent.
Building on this success of this EP, Phil produced Buck Brothers 1st Album ‘Me’. The Album met with huge success once again in North America on both student and commercial radio, reaching as no. 9 in the FMQB chart (measuring airplay on alternative radio shows) across the whole of the US along with the likes of the Killers and Green Day.
It was at this time Rodney Bingenheimer, (resident DJ on LA’s KROQ & instrumental in the rise of countless household names, including Blondie, No Doubt, The Ramones), became a huge personal friend to Buck Brothers. Rodney played Buck Brothers religiously on KROQ for over 2 years.
Buck Brothers also appeared alongside Elbow on New York’s cult show, Fearless TV, (aired to over 20m US homes) and supported Primal Scream in Russia and Goldfinger for their UK tour.
In order to publicise the release of Buck Brother's 1st album, the band organised a highly publicised stunt: breaking the world record for the most number of gigs performed in one day. This stunt was reported by all major London news outlets, including ITN news (see below).
Production
Phil also produced The Last Republic’s (then calked Kardomah- see below) 1st EP. The Last Rupublic went on to open V-Festival in 2009, end where support band for Bon Jovi at the O2 Arena.
Below are two examples of artists produced by Phil.
